I have never believed in ghosts or paranormal activity. My views on this whole thing were, when you are dead... that's it!
After living in this house for over two years now, I can honestly say there is definitely something more, long after we are all dead and buried. I have seen things in this house that I only thought possible for entertainment in films. I have always been a sceptic of the after-life, and I have always looked for some other explanation for the events, sounds and scary things we have seen here, But I have not found any rational explanations. If want for another word, they are all unexplained.
We have taken hundreds of photos in this house and almost all of them display Orbs. We have used three different cameras to try and prove a point, but they still clearly appear. Most of these Orbs also have face's in them. One of these was taken a few weeks ago and remarkably resembles my lovely pet cat that died here December 08.
Since we have lived here we have witnessed cupboard doors opening and slamming shut on their own in the middle of the night. The UPVC doors open and unlock themselves, lights go on and off on their own and so do electrical appliances such as the TV, PC, and stereo player. We have seen several ghosts/spirit people, and so have our visiting family and friends, some of which have now refused to come back for overnight stays! These include the spirit of a young boy aged about 5 years old, a stern lady in victorian dress with long dark hair, and a black cat. Items go missing here all the time, and most are never found again. Its a regular occurance for spirit to walk up our second floor flight of stairs at night, open our bedroom door and walk in! There are also many more things we have experienced that I’d rather not mention.
In brief we all know our own house noises, like when the heating comes on and the hot pipes warm the floor boards making them creek etc. But when you are the resident living in a house you know what noises are not quite right and which are far from normal.
In less than six months of living here I wanted to move! I can honestly say I felt more than uneasy, but financially this was not an option for us. The paranormal activity increased to such an extent, and with hostility, that we felt unwelcome in our own home! My Fiancee Jayne involved the local vicar who blessed every room in the house and also said a prayer in each room too. Then she made contact with a well known Medium from Welshpool, Rev. Beverly Williams, who came to clear the negative energy which was residing in the house. After several attempts Beverly requested further help from a group of 'House Clearing Mediums' who all came and performed a 'Rescue Circle' and with their permission we filmed this. During which the spirit of a man calling himself John, 'took over' Beverly, (this is known as 'Trance') he was very angry and hostile, especially towards females, and claimed he had built this house in the 18th century and shouted several times for us to "Get out of his house!" He was clearly a man of distinction and very proud. It took the efforts of all 8 mediums a total of 3 hours before finally sending him on 'into the light' and to a better place. Following this we checked the house deeds and discovered that a 'John Williams' built our home in 1899.
Another major change we have made since living here is the house name. Formally 'Bryntirion' Welsh for 'Steep Hill' our house is now called 'Dwylo Duw' meaning In 'God's Hands' We were advised to change the original name BRYNTIRION by many different mediums who claimed it was attracting negative energy and bringing us bad luck. Our lives had certainly been one uphill climb and struggle since moving here, yet since we changed the name, amazingly Miracles have now started to occur!
As a result of all our efforts the activity in the house has calmed down, and we all feel much happier and settled as a family. There is still a great deal of paranormal activity, but the negative side of this has lifted completely. Regarding all the spiritual occurances, we still have many strange unexplained things going on, And I cannot find a reasonable explanation for them. But I have learned to live with this now, and I also have a much better understanding!
Yes, now I would say I am a believer of ghost’s and paranormal activity. By living here it has given me proof that there is something else after we 'die' I may still not be quite sure what that is, but death is certainly not the end for us and Dwylo Duw is our evidence.

A word from Jayne
Unlike Martin, I have always believed in the after life and have a deep faith and relationship with God.
Moving into Bryntirion tested my faith on numerous occasions and I struggled to comprehend the terrifying incidents that we were all experiencing.
Its only due to receiving support from our local Vicar, family and friends, and the intervention of several mediums, especially Rev. Beverly Williams, that has helped us to come to terms with everything and to find some normality within our daily lives.
Our sons have also all been affected by the ghosts in our home and many times they have seen the ‘happy little boy’ who is present here so often, the ghostly black cat and other spirit visitors who have since been ‘removed’
Isaac particularly had a very unpleasant experience which we hoped /believed was just a reoccurring dream or nightmare at that time. For several weeks after moving in Isaac woke up during the night and came into our room upset saying a man had woken him by poking and prodding his leg. Each time we enticed him back into bed with a cuddle and lots of reassurance saying that this was just his imagination.
During Beverly’s first visit here she knew nothing about us or any details of the activity within our home. Left alone to walk around the house she came downstairs to me and referring to Jacob and Isaac’s bedroom she said “I don’t know who sleeps on the bottom bunk bed, but I have just got rid of a horrible old man from that room and he told me he was waking the boy who sleeps in the bottom bunk by touching his leg” I don’t know if she saw the sheer horror on my facial expression but she then quickly added “Don’t worry its ok, he has gone now” We never told Isaac about this as we did not wish to disturb him further by learning this man was in fact real and not a dream or his imagination, but he never woke during the night to complain about this again.
For the first 18 months we lived here, all our close family and friends agreed, that had they not been present, and witnessed events and situations occurring within our lives during this time, they would never have believed what we were experiencing.
Besides harrowing paranormal activity, this also included tragic incidents, huge financial difficulties, illness’s, and even death. What concerned us even more was learning that this had occurred to previous occupants in this house long before we moved here, and we confirmed this information after making contact with Nigel and Norma Lewis who owned the house for 11 years. They experienced floods causing awful damage to the Annexe underneath the house, a unexplained fire that devastated the property, and many more similar incidents that we were also subjected to. Meeting Nigel though did in fact answer my prayers, I had asked God on numerous occasions why he was not helping or protecting us from the hostile ‘ghosts’ and negative energy which was profoundly affecting our lives, especially so when it was all very unwelcome. Learning some of the awful experiences Nigel and his family have experienced, I.e. the fire and floods besides other things I can not yet mention, made me realise how protected we really have been, despite us all feeling otherwise!
The main problem, or so we have been told, is due to a ‘Vortex’ on the second floor stairs. This is attracting unwelcome spirits into our home, some come and go, whilst others stay here, but not all of them are ‘Good’ or of ‘white light and peace’
The house is also built in line with several old Chapels in this area, which apparently is host to severe negative energy caused by ‘Time lines’
To be totally honest, all this is beyond our comprehension, yet several different Mediums, all unknown to each other, have given these same reasons for our problems and for the paranormal activity we often witness on a daily basis.
They all also agree that our Annexe is the worst part of the house for supernatural ghostly presence. The Annexe can not be seen from the picture shown on our home page. When we moved here the Annexe was a self contained flat/studio that the previous owners rented out to tenants’ We never had any desire to rent it out but agreed it would be ideal for all our family and friends when they visited from Staffordshire. The previous owners ripped out the original Victorian stairway leading down to the Annexe from our kitchen, therefore the only access was from a UPVC door from outside the rear of the property on the driveway by the garage. In 2007 we restored access to make the house complete again, and local builders installed a stairway leading down to the Annexe, where the original staircase had been when the house was built.
As with any building work, decorating, moving furniture etc. the activity increased during these changes and for quite some time afterwards!
Interestingly all Mediums and many visitors complain of feeling a sensation that they are on the sea or water when they are in the Annexe. A group of ‘house clearing Mediums’ that once came insisted for Martin to fetch his spirit level from the Garage to prove the floor was uneven, it wasn’t! Many strange things have happened in the Annexe and Martin and I both refuse to go down there after dark! It was the servant quarters when the house was built and a lady is often present rubbing her ‘chapped hands’ as though she is soothing them or using a cream to help her condition? Needless to say the Annexe has rarely been used to accommodate our overnight guests, they all stay in the spare room ‘up in the house’
The whole house and every room has now been blessed with Holy water from Lourdes, and also blessed by our local Vicar, and it has been ‘cleared’ on numerous occasions by Mediums, who have all returned many times saying there was far too much to resolve in one visit. Some Mediums have been so disturbed by what they have felt and seen here that they have refused to come back. They have also said there is no permanent cure, and our home will always be active with paranormal/spiritual activity, though for now we are protected from ‘Bad/evil and negative’ energy, and we have noticeably felt the difference and are happy to confirm this!
Some images displayed in our photographs are very disturbing. Face’s that have appeared in Orbs and within ‘misty energy’ do not appear human, nor are they pleasant to view!
I have kept a detailed journal and diary of events since living here and I am now using this information to write a book which I hope will be completed very soon. This Book will contain the awful faces shown in some of our photos, and also a wonderful photo of a group of ‘flying cherubs’ that appeared in our lounge, we believe these were present at the time to help to protect us and our home.
Former owners Nigel and Norma Lewis are now publicans in the South of England, they have kindly agreed to provide old photographs, some taken of their children 'growing up' in this house that also display Orbs and unexplainable ghostly images, all of which will be published in my book.
I’ve also made contact with the Great-Granddaughter of the family who built this house, the information she has given has been valuable and thanks to her contribution we have also discovered the identity and history of some of our ghostly visitors, including the little boy who we believe to be ‘Frank Capper’ who died here aged 5 years old with the illness Diphtheria.
Long before the house was built in 1899, the foundations were a business premises for many years owned by the same family.
Another interesting discovery we have made was due to Martin finding a program to interpret Anagrams. The interpretations of the original house name BRYNTIRION were not only all negative, but very accurate descriptions relating to events happening within our home. ‘BRINY’ means ‘Sea or water’ which relates to the Annexe and previous flood problems and is the most popular word within this Anagram, and others include ‘ORB INN’ and ‘BOY’ etc. Orbs are always displayed on our photographs and our home is indeed a INN to spiritual visitors!
We have all seen ghosts in ‘full form’ in this house, and so have some of our visiting family and friends. My Catholic Father had one particularly disturbing experience during an overnight stay in May 2007, this was during the time when all activity seemed to be at its worst. My friends 2 year old son Elijah was terrified after seeing many ghosts walking up our stairs in September 2008, and neither of us will forget this incident or what poor little Elijah said to us. Following this I was extremely grateful that we don’t see ‘everything’ we possibly could, or as much activity as what babies and young toddlers can apparently see, otherwise I doubt I would ever walk up those stairs again!
We are no longer afraid to admit how much we desperately wanted to sell and move during the first Two years we lived here, but not only was it not financially viable, there was no way I was prepared to let another family experience what we were going through! We are and always have been determined to resolve as much as possible, and since changing our house name to DWYLO DUW, meaning In ‘God Hands’ our lives have changed for the better and even miracles have now started to occur within our lives.
Despite all the above mentioned, and the recent positive changes, we do still desire to move. Once we have moved, due to so many requests we have also recently discussed the possibility of renting the house to visitors for individual/group overnight stays, as we are very confident they will all experience some paranormal activity and evidence for themselves, and they will not be disappointed if this is what they are searching for!
For our family of six, the last 2 years have been an incredible journey which we will never forget, nor will those who are close to us and involved in our lives. Yes, Miracles are now starting to happen, but currently the only thing we know for sure is for as long as we remain in ‘Gods Hands‘ we are safe and protected, and right now we couldn’t ask for more than that!
